CE

CE marking (Communité Européen) symbolizes conformity of the product to  all the applicable European requirements and that  appropriate assessment procedures have been completed.

CE marking IS NOT:

  • A mark of origin,
  • A mark of quality in the traditional sense,
  • Related to aspects outside the Essential Requirements (i.e. voluntary characteristics such as color, appearance),
  • A license to use the product in all works in all Member States

The Construction Products Directive (CPD) aims to eliminate  technical barriers to trade. The commission has mandated CEN, Comité Européen de Normalisation, to produce harmonised European Norms (hENs) in the field of “Glass in Building”. This mandate covers flat glass, profiled glass and glass block products.

CE marking with accompanying documentation makes possible to eliminate national barriers to trade. This mark is a guarantee that the product satisfies defined factors and therefore can be placed on the UE market.

Harmonised  European Norms (hENs) are standards adopted by Comité Européen de Normalisation (CEN) following a mandate issued by the European Commission. They have been developed through an open and transparent  process, built on consensus between all interested parties.

The following topics are contained in the hEN:

  • Details on how the product conforms to the mandate,
  • Details on initial type testing of the product and its characteristics,
  • Details on factory production control.

Details of the glass products were published in October 2004:

  • EN 572-9 for basic soda-lime-silicate glass,
  • EN 1096-4 for coated glass,
  • EN 12150-2 for thermally toughened safety soda-lime-silicate glass.

Conformity to this norms has been obligatory since July 2006.

Supporting standards  have been published by Polish Normalization Committee and are available at PNC Office.

SZKŁO Company is producing toughened glass in conformity with EN 12150-1 which  specifies tolerances, flatness, edgework, fragmentation and physical and mechanical characteristics of monolithic flat thermally toughened safety glass for use in buildings.

EN 12150-2 standard covers the evaluation of conformity and the factory production control that should be completed in order to introduce CE marking. This allows a purchaser to relay upon the information received with the product without necessity of cross- checking parameters.

The SZKŁO Company has a written acknowledgment  that its products have completed tests of conformity with appropriate standards.
